Bowlers did a fantastic job: Kumble

Bangalore: Squandering the rollicking start proved costly, said Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Sourav Ganguly after his side suffered a seven wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL match here.

Riding on good top order batting, KKR had were at an intimidating 101 for one wicket in 11 overs but could manage just 160 for nine on the board which proved insufficient in the end.

"It was a good start. We were 100 plus after 11 overs but we lost it after that. We did not play well today. We were positioned to get to 190. We did not deserve to win today," Ganguly said after the match.

"We did not bowl well then. We are trying to wake up from this loss and hopefully we will win all the remaining games and hopefully turn it on in Chennai," he added.

KKR now need to win all remaining three games to be in reckoning for a semifinal place.

Winning captain Anil Kumble was naturally delighted to move to second spot in the points table after Mumbai Indians.

"It`s fantastic win. They were 100 in 10 overs and our . Last three-four matches, we have been going for 180, so they did really well.”

"Amazing crowd. The way Robin and Rahul batted, it was superb. Dravid set it up and uthappa finished it off. Nice to have smiles back. We will go to Nagpur with confidence high and on a positive note," he said.

Man-of-the-match for his three wickets, Vinay Kumar credited his performance to senior international bowlers in the side.

"I stuck to my basics, kept hitting the right areas, and definitely with this attack, there is so much to gain. Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Anil, PK are all world-class bowlers.”

"It is a learning process for me and their presence made my job easier. Two days ago, it was my dad`s birthday, I want to dedicate this to him," he said.
