Nikah of Shoaib, Sania today: Sania spokesperson

New Delhi : Indian tennis queen Sania Mirza is slated to get married to Pakistani cricket star today, Geo News quoted an Indian news channel Monday.

According to Sania’s spokesperson, the several personages from circles of Bollywood and cricketers including Tendulkar would attend the reception ceremony.

The news channel reported the ‘mehndi rite’ would be conducted tomorrow after nikah is held today and the grand reception would be held on April 15.

Although the venue of the Nikah hasn’t been revealed yet due to security reasons, sources reveal that the ceremony will take place at the Taj Krishna hotel here on Monday. Sania is reported to leave for the venue in sometime. Interestingly, it was at the same hotel that Sania was engaged to her childhood friend Sohrab Mirza on July 10 last year amid much fanfare. The tennis ace called off the engagement January 28 this year citing 'incompatibility'.

Nevertheless, Sania’s PRO also revealed that the tennis star will don the same red sari, which her mother wore at her Nikah 25 years back. Also, she is stated to go for a subtle make-up and the much raved about Arabic mehendi. On the other hand, Shoaib is set to wear a Black sherwani designed by renowned designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil.

Talking about Sania's wedding, the designer duo confirmed saying, “Yes we are designing Sania’s wedding and reception outfits but we cannot divulge any further details on it.”

India and Pakistani stars get married

Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has married Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik at a ceremony in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad.

The wedding at a city hotel was attended by relatives from both sides, a spokesperson for India's most successful woman tennis player said.

The union between two of South Asia's top sporting personalities came after Malik divorced another woman last week.

Receptions are expected in Hyderabad, where Mirza lives, and in Lahore.

"Please pray for the newly-wed couple," a spokesperson for Sania Mirza told reporters.

Mirza was dressed in the same red sari worn by her mother at her own wedding, the Press Trust of India reported.

The BBC's Omer Farooq in Hyderabad says the media was kept away from the marriage ceremony which took place at a luxury hotel.

'Other wife'

The unusual cross-border romance has captivated the people of long-time rivals India and Pakistan.

Last week the family of Malik's first wife, Ayesha Siddiqui, withdrew charges against him over his wedding plans after the cricketer divorced her.

Malik had earlier said he met Ms Siddiqui on the internet and married her over the telephone, which is valid under Islamic law.

But he claimed that the photographs she had sent him were of someone else and therefore his marriage was illegal.

Sania Mirza, 23, and Shoaib Malik, 28, announced their wedding in March. The tennis star broke off a previous engagement earlier this year.

While celebrations will be held in both countries, the couple plan to live in Dubai and will continue to represent their respective countries in international sporting ties.

Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik's marriage to Indian tennis star Sania Mirza is back on track after he reportedly divorced another woman.

Community elders in the Indian city of Hyderabad helped broker the divorce in talks that went on through the night.

The family of Malik's first wife Ayesha Siddiqui have now withdrawn charges against him over his wedding plans.

There was no immediate comment from Malik or Mirza. He had accused the Siddiqui family of deceiving him.

He also alleged that the marriage certificate presented by the family had been a fake.
